Recovery Day
Over the course of this trip, we’ve had a bunch of really,
really good free walking tours. Today,
this was not the case. Thirty
minutes in, our guide was still at the first stop talking about a
not-all-that-important marketplace and giving absolutely zero interesting
information about it, so we decided to split and see the city ourselves.
We walked to the Museum Quarter and decided to check out the
Natural History Museum. It was
fairly interesting and kindly brought to my attention the fact that humans are
causing possibly the worst mass extinction in Earth’s history. Lovely.

We then walked through the city center past the Hofburg
Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and the city park before hitting up St.
Peter’s Church, where there was a free organ concert going on. The acoustics were glorious and it
reinforced my longstanding desire to learn to play the organ. It’s definitely the most badass
instrument (and that’s not sarcasm).
After that, we walked through the Belvedere Palace Gardens before deciding we’d done
enough walking for the day and returned to our hostel. Anyway, I didn’t run again today because the swelling in my Achilles had come up slightly, probably from running yesterday, so looks like I need to keep resting it.
